The Start Of Our Adventure!

Written by Sarah & Jordan | Jun 12, 2023 7:29:21 PM

Hi! This is Jordan & Sarah.  👋 Nice to meet you!

For those who don't know us yet, our story starts in middle/high school becoming really good friends, however, we didn't actually start dating until after university.

A little about us:

Sarah is a certified Physician Associate, Functional Medicine nutrition coach & certified yoga instructor. Jordan has been working in startup tech sales, most recently at HubSpot for 9 years while also running programs for HubSpot & other companies focused on sustainable peak performance encompassing: mindfulness, mental health, yoga, personal coaching & resilience.

We are both Colorado natives and moved to Boston in 2013 for 4+ years while Sarah was in graduate school.  We really enjoyed Boston, met lifelong friends, got a great taste of city life and grew significantly as individuals. After school we returned to live in Vail, Colorado, where Sarah started her career as a PA-C, Jordan started working remote and we fell in love with the mountain lifestyle. Snowboarding, hiking, biking, golfing, camping and enjoying nature all year.

For us, one of the foundational elements of our relationship for the last 10 years has been our passion for travel. We love exploring new cultures, tasting new foods from hole in the wall restaurants to some of the world's best, hiking mountains, adventuring outdoors and meeting new people.

The most recent travel journey actually started in 2019 when we planned to hike Torres Del Paine, Patagonia, Chile in March, 2020.  But Covid-19 quickly ruined those plans for us and the rest of the world.

You know how some events just snowball and stack on top of each other?

That definitely happened to us. Between 2020 and 2023 multiple major life events happened that pushed us to question our values, how we spend our time and whether we were really living up to our biggest purpose in life. Were we just working the typical hamster wheel careers to retire and then hope to have our health, vitality and freedom to go explore?

Jordan's dad, Terry, was diagnosed with an incredibly rare disease that forced Jordan into a part-time care taker role, while still trying to juggle top performance at HubSpot (easy recipe for burnout).  After multiple trips to The Mayo Clinic, Denver area hospitals and multiple surgeries, Terry passed away in January 2021.  Additionally, many people we knew had either lost someone way too young, taken their own lives or experienced tragedies of their own. The stories we've heard of people who retire and are finally ready to live their "dream life" but find out they have cancer, don't have the health to go or pass away. And finally, we had to put our dog, Peanut of 14 years down due to old age.

All of this combined to have us ask the question,

"What are we waiting for?!"

We got married in August, 2022 on our 9th anniversary and took a short honeymoon to Mexico to snorkel with Whale Sharks and scuba dive in one of our favorite locations, Cozumel, but all the while thinking about a larger adventure.

We decided to take the month of January and explore Chile in a camper where Jordan could still work and try the digital nomad life to see if that would be an avenue to explore while maintaining our normal careers.  We'd heard about the amazing overlanding adventures around Chile, Argentina and South America so we figured that would be a great way to get our feet wet.

Once we got down Santiago de Chile we kept feeling a desire to stay longer, to disconnect from the day to day of life but were so attached to work it was hard to make the jump. Thanks to the push of Jordan's therapist, to disconnect from work for awhile to set boundaries and recharge. At the end of the month we decided to buy the camper, named Compa, expand our journey and take some time for our mental wellness.

After a few months away we decided to both quit our jobs and travel full-time exploring South America.  Yet, we still wanted to create and add value to the world.  We decided to start sharing our knowledge of mental & physical health, nutrition & wellness combined with our love of food, the outdoors and adventure.

With our blog we hope to share all of this and more with anyone interested in learning more about health, wellness, travel, the best restaurants, the best hikes and anything else we think will be helpful along the way.
